Enjoyed this as it has a very fresh taste. However, if you use a full cup of tea like the recipe notes, the drink will likely be very thin. However my banana was not frozen. So I give the recipe a 5 on flavor, but not 100% sure on best measurements. I will make it again. I used honey lemon green tea with excellent results.-21 Feb 2018

This matcha green tea yogurt smoothie is a healthy afternoon drink to help satisfy hunger and bring a boost of energy.

These last few months I’ve shared several healthier recipe posts which I’ve been making to help maintain a healthier lifestyle. I plan on continuing to share more and hopefully you’ll find some of them helpful to you as well.

January was easiest, as everyone seemed to have the same mindset. But now there’s been Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine’s Day, and long weekends and it’s definitely getting harder to stick to good eating habits.

I still try my best to eat well during the work week. I make healthy lunches and dinners, avoid eating out too much, etc. Born Sweet® Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener has been extremely useful. Difference between matcha (green tea powder) & regular green tea leaves

Before I start, I want to mention once again that matcha (or green tea powder) is NOT something you can make by grinding green tea leaves that you normally drink at home or restaurant. I receive this question all the time, so please make sure that you don’t grind green tea leaves to make m atcha. What’s ma tcha t hen? As my work requires me to spend a lot of time testing recipes which comes with a lot of eating and sitting in front of the computer which means staying glued to my chair and not moving enough, I noticed I had involuntary put my health in negligence. I knew it was time to do something about it. So back in October last year I made a resolution to take better care of myself. What that means is I make sure to 1) make time to go to the gym 5 days a week and exercise for at least one hour, 2) sleep by 1 am, not 2 am anymore, and 3) eat smaller portions (and less carbohydrate). They seem ambitious, but I am determined to carry them out.

One of the new habits that I incorporated into my daily routine is drinking smoothies. Smoothies are simple, delicious, and exciting, but they are not a replacement for a meal in my case. Instead, they are more like a healthier “snack” between meals to fill me up, so I don’t gorge on a big portion during meal times. I make healthy smoothies for Mr. JOC and myself every morning, and another round of smoothies for my kids and myself every day after school.

Of all the smoothie recipes I’ve experimented with so far, my favorite is matcha green tea smoothie. The taste of banana mixed with matcha green tea complements each other well and you get a creamy consistency. What I love most is the power duo also gives you an energizing boost and the natural sweetness helps stave off cravings for sugary snacks.

You can use any blender to make smoothies, but I bought a Nutribullet from Costco a while back when it was discounted. It’s so easy to use! You can make as many servings as you like, but what I like most about this Nutribullet is that it’s easy to make ONE serving. And the blender container can turn into a cup so you don’t need to pour the smoothie into a glass (one less thing to wash!). You can even take it on the go with a special lid. How awesome is that? So. I've been trying to do more for myself lately. Which, as any mom knows, isn't nearly as easy as it looks. Mint and Green Tea Smoothie Recipe

Meet my new favorite feel good smoothie. It’s green (of course), but not too green.

The base of this smoothie is brewed green tea infused with golden coins of fresh ginger. I used some organic green jasmine tea here, but you can use whatever you’ve got. Just make sure the tea bags haven’t been sitting in the pantry for 5 years. Green things include spinach for nutrients and mint for flavor. Pear and pineapple join the mix to naturally sweeten things up. Blend that all up, and you’ve got a vibrant green beverage that’s pure sunshine on a cold winter morning. There’s no kale or celery in this smoothie, so its “greenness” is definitely on the pleasant side. Continue reading for the smoothie recipe.

The main flavor of this smoothie is green tea, so there is some room for variation here based on what type of green tea you use. Once you’ve blended up the smoothie, taste for sweetness and acidity. If you need a little more sweetness, add a dab of honey. A little more acidity? Add a squeeze of lemon. Just avoid adding more fruit, because you’ll start to mask the flavor of the green tea.

Peach Green Tea Smoothie

Somehow I’ve managed to let summer almost slip away without sharing a new smoothie recipe with you guys. I actually don’t think I’ve made a new smoothie recipe since January…how is this possible?! Lucky for you I froze some of my Colorado peaches a couple weeks ago and I was really in the mood for a peachy smoothie this past weekend after our overly warm weather.

Back in January I made a Raspberry Green Tea Smoothie and it is by far my most popular smoothie recipes on the blog. I can’t say I’m surprised because it’s pretty darn tasty and is unique because it uses green tea as the liquid instead of milk or juice. I just happened to have more green tea in my pantry so I brewed a cup, chilled it, then added it to this delicious Peach Green Tea Smoothie!

This smoothie not only has the healthy benefits of green tea and peaches in it, but it also has added protein thanks to Greek yogurt. The Greek yogurt makes this smoothie a little more filling as well as adding some creaminess. If you can’t have dairy try mixing in a non-dairy yogurt instead. I sweetened the smoothie with honey because I love the combination of peaches and honey together, not to mention honey and tea are a classic pairing.

I tend to like my smoothies extra thick, probably because it makes me feel like I’m having a milkshake for breakfast rather than what it really is, a healthy smoothie. If you like your smoothies thinner I would just omit the ice or not add as much, but with the weather still being hot, I say the thicker and frostier the smoothie the better!

What makes this limeade recipe healthier?

Traditional limeade contains refined sugar. We’ve all heard by now how sugar can increase your risk for certain health issues, like diabetes and obesity. However, did you know it can also contribute to depression or other mood disorders? I was shocked to find that out, yet it makes good sense. Thankfully, my cilantro smoothie recipe is sweetened with the natural sugars found in 1.5 bananas. Similarly, you can sweeten the natural way with ingredients like banana, dates, maple syrup or honey and avoid those refined sugars.

Fresh Cilantro in a Smoothie

Cilantro is one of those things that people either love or hate. Whichever side of the fence you sit on in respect to cilantro, it’s hard to deny its health benefits. Also called Chinese parsley and fresh coriander, this leafy green herb helps the body detoxify itself of heavy metals. It’s also a good source of vitamin K which helps with circulation and blood clotting. I think it tastes great too, especially blended into a green smoothie! Or on your tacos. Fresh Ginger goes well with Lime

This Cilantro smoothie also contains ginger which is good for settling the tummy. When one of my SGS team members was expecting, she had raging morning sickness. Well, it was all-day sickness, to be more specific. Thankfully, she was able to keep that upset tummy at bay by consuming everything ginger she could find (ginger root, ginger lozenges, ginger tea).

Adding it to your smoothies regularly will help keep tummy troubles in check.

Plus! Ginger is also known for fighting inflammation. See why I love it so? Now inflammation can be a good thing, like when your immune system is fighting off infection. However, the bad kind of inflammation can contribute to all sorts of yuckiness in the body, like asthma and arthritis.

Therefore I choose to fight it off on the regular with a bit of zesty ginger in my smoothies. It tastes good and is good for me. See, now these are the moments I enjoy being a grownup!

Why smoothies help you lose weight

For most of us, there’s a balance between the good things and the not-so-good things. (I’m talking to you, French fries with my veggie burger.) My point is, it’s hard to always eat healthy. I’m a huge fan of smoothies, especially when I can use natural ingredients to transform it into a weight loss smoothie.

Homemade smoothies are a delicious way to get a nourishing boost of energy in the mornings or on-the-go. For this matcha green tea smoothie recipe, I used different types of ingredients that offer a rich source of nutrients, such as protein, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. Enjoy this smoothie as an energizing breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up. It only takes a few minutes to prepare this nutritious beverage in your blender. For an irresistible frozen treat, pour the mixture into popsicle molds and set them in the freezer. In a few hours, you’ll have refreshing ice pops that are perfect for the hot weather!

Matcha green tea powder contains extremely high antioxidant levels that exceed those of other green teas. Matcha is one of the most superior grades of tea in the world.
